DAYTON - The news was good and bad for the Carson High golf team on Tuesday.
Garrett Gingell qualified for state as an individual, shooting a second-round 74 at Dayton Valley Golf Club for a 36-hole total of 156.
The Carson team, however, will not move on. The Senators finished sixth with an 860. McQueen won the tournament with a 797, four strokes better than Reno. Galena was third at 805 and Spanish Springs was fourth at 806. Douglas was eighth at 902.
The state tournament is May 16 and 17 at Hidden Valley Country Club in Reno.
Gingell had 14 pars, three bogeys and a birdie on No. 3, a short par-5.
"That's a great score for him," said coach Terry Gingell of his son's performance. "He played very strong; very solid. He played a very nice game."
Gingell parred the difficult par-4 17th and the par-5 18th.
Mitch Parra, who was in contention to advance after a first-round 80, shot a second -round 83 for 163 to finish 16th. Roman Smokey also had a second-round 83 and finished at 171. Nate Brown shot a 93 (183), Ben Drozdoff had a 94 (193) and Johnathan Porter had a 102 (195).
"Mitch played well," coach Gingell said. "He had a couple of bad holes, but had a good tournament overall.
"It was a strong performance (by the team); very solid. I'm happy with the game they played."
Douglas' Max McDuffee led the Tigers with a second-round 84 for a 171, while Michael Doyle was a stroke behind with an 83 and a 172.
Other individuals moving on are Spanish Springs' Jordan Gilmore (74-71-145), Galena's Naryan Gill (79-74-153), Manogue's Kevin Andrews (82-73-155) and Manogue's Nick Greco (82-75-157).
