SALT LAKE CITY - Despite another strong showing on the mound by Cassie Vondrak, Western Nevada dropped a 2-1 decision to Snow College Friday at the Scenic West Athletic Conference tournament.
The loss ended WNC's season at 8-40.
Vondrak allowed just six hits, but failed to get much-needed offensive support for the second consecutive day.
Both teams scored in the first inning.
WNC's Sarah Cudahy singled and was brought in on a sacrifice fly ball by Ashley Hall. WNC would allow nothing more until the fifth inning. A single run by Snow would be enough to seal the win.
Coach Leah Wentworth was proud of her team's work.
"It was an all around great game," she said. "The girls fought all seven innings and didn't stop battling until the end."
Wentworth is looking forward to next season as WNC returns 11 players from this year's squad. The Wildcats' recruiting focus will be on pitching, as Hall and Vondrak both graduate. Jamie Klopatek is the only returning pitcher.
