John "Jack" MacKenzie was born in San Francisco on Feb. 22, 1922. His family moved to Novato, Calif., in September 1922 and John graduated from San Rafael High School's class of 1940.
He married Mildred "Midge" Baldwin in May 1942. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy December 1942. He joined the 8th Battalion, Navy "Seabees" serving in Dutch Harbor during the Aleutian Campaign and the Battle of Iwo Jima. Upon discharge he was employed as a line man for Pacific Gas & Electric, rising to line crew foreman. He retired in 1983 after 38 years of service.
John received PG&E's "John A. Britton Award" in 1978 for successfully reviving an unconscious stranger via mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
John lived in various Northern California communities-San Rafael, Navato, St. Helena, Santa Rosa, Healdsburg, until settling in Carson City in 1988.
His wife Midge passed away in 1997. He married Alene Galli in 2005.
John is survived by son Robert MacKenzie and his wife Christine Anderson of Stuttgart, Germany; his wife Alene (Galli) MacKenzie and her two daughters Debra Linehan, and Marilyn Browns; grandchildren Andrew MacKenzie of Kapolie, Hawaii, Kate MacKenzie of Oxford, Ohio, Julie Romero and Dennis Browns Jr.
Visitation will be 10 a.m.-noon Monday, May 23 at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City followed by a graveside service at 1 p.m. at Lone Mountain Cemetery.
