A 26-year-old Carson City resident was killed early Sunday morning when the 1998 Dodge Durango he was driving left the road and rolled near Courtland Lane and Highway 395.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at about 5:14 a.m.
The vehicle was allegedly traveling northbound on 395 at a high rate of speed.
Preliminary investigation information shows the Durango drifted off the right roadway edge, and the driver overcorrected to the left and then to the right, sending the pickup into a broadside skid. The pickup left the right roadway edge and traveled 40 feet down an embankment where it rolled several times.
The driver was thrown from the pickup as it rolled over. A passenger, a 34-year-old Reno resident, was belted in and remained with the vehicle during the crash. He was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center by Care Flight helicopter with critical injuries.
The Nevada Highway Patrol is withholding the names of both men until they've notified their families.
The wreck is being investigated by the NHP's Major Accident Investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Trooper Robert Haigney at (775) 689-4682 regarding case No. NHP-1105220105.
