The Carson High School staff would like to congratulate the class of 2011 for the successful completion of their senior projects. We are proud of all your hard work. We would also like to sincerely thank all of the volunteers, mentors, judges and parents, who have made this year projects so successful.

During our blood drive on May 17 we collected 206 units of blood. We exceeded our goal by a good amount.

Thank you to all the community members and students who participated. Special thanks to National Honor Society members who organized the event and helped to run it. Way to go Senators!

For the fifth straight year and the 11th time since the 1999-2000 edition, the 2011 Carneta was inducted into Walsworth Company's Gallery of Excellence, which is a collection of the company's top yearbooks.

This means that the Carneta will be going across the country to other schools and yearbook workshops to be used as source material and examples for salespeople.

Approximately 5 percent of the company's books receive this yearly award. This has been the first year that the yearbook and newspaper classes have been combined into a publications class, so students are exposed to both online and print publications, according to Patt Quinn-Davis, adviser.

"To again receive this award in the face of this brand new class structure speaks so highly of those staff members who stayed committed, giving the time and attention to both publications," Quinn-Davis said. "I'm just very proud of them."

A limited number of this year's book will be available for sale on May 25 in the library beginning at 1:20 p.m. The publications class also has collections of yearbooks from past years. Generally, the books are available for $75 each. Call 283-1782 for information on these yearbooks.

A great new "scholarship" opportunity is available to Carson High School students. Casey, Neilon and Associates want to help ninth- through 11th-grade, college-bound students (must have at least a 3.5 grade-point average) and need something (laptop computer, Internet service, books, backpacks, etc.) to help them attain their goals.

Applications are available in the guidance office. The due date is June 10, 2011.
