A home on Tybo Road in the Virginia City Highlands was destroyed by fire this afternoon.
Storey County Spokesman Deny Dotson said the fire was called in about 11:20 a.m. When crews arrived on scene, a detached garage was fully engulfed.
Winds, estimated at 30 mph, carried the flames to the two-story home and destroyed it, said Dotson.
The family, two adults and seven children, escaped unharmed.
Recent defensible space prepared by the homeowner and the Storey County Fire Department, prevented the flames from going further, said Dotson.
