PREPS: Quilling, Blueberg win 4A baseball honors

Six Carson High baseball players were named to the all-Northern 4A baseball squad.

Outfielder Chance Quilling and pitcher Colby Blueberg were first-team selections, while Nick Domitrovich was a second-team utility player. Outfielder Austin Pacheco, utility player Rory Petersen and second baseman Brock Pradere were honorable mention selections.

Blueberg, who pitched, played shortstop and third base this season, compiled a 4-3 record with a 4.67 ERA. He struck out 36 hitters in 43 innings.

Quilling, a junior, led the team in doubles with 13 and was second in batting average (.410) and RBIs (27). He trailed Blueberg in the latter categories. He was tied for third on the team in runs scored (28).

Domitrovich hit .326 with a homer and 16 RBI. He mainly rotated betwen third and short. He tied for second on the team with 10 doubles.

Pradere, a junior, hit .351 with 15 RBIs and 25 runs scored. Petersen, who played catcher and third base, hit .379 with a homer and 24 RBI. He also scored 21 runs. Pacheco hit .376 with eight homers, 25 RBIs and 35 runs scored. Of his 38 hits, 18 went for extra bases.

Damonte Ranch's Jon Polson was named 4A Coach of the Year, while Bishop Manogue's Sean DeWeese was Player of the Year, Galena's Jace Puckett was Pitcher of the Year and Reno's Anthony Hascheff was Offensive Player of the Year.

GOLF

Garrett Gingell was named to the all-Northern 4A team and the all-Sierra golf squad. Gingell capped off a sensational season by placing tying for 10th at the recent NIAA 4A state tournament played at Hidden Valley Country Club in Reno.

Mitch Parra received honorable mention honors for state and Sierra League. Roman Smokey was an honorable mention selection for the all-Sierra team.

Douglas' Cody Logan, Shane Pyle and Michael Doyle were honorable mention all-Sierra selections.

Spanish Springs' Jordan Gilmore was named Player of the Year and Reno's Michael Edwards was named Coach of the Year.

TRACK

Track bases its all-league selections on where athletes finish at the 4A regional meet.

Carson freshman Josilyn Daggs was a second-team selection in the 100 hurdles and Alex Drozdoff was a second-team selection in the 3200.

Reed's dynamic duo of Gabby Williams (hurdles) and Adriana Newell (sprints) were named the Athlete of the Year and Runner of the Year, respectively. Reed's Nyasha LeSure was Field Athlete of the Year. McQueen's Ed Parise and Damonte's Bill Harrison were Co-Coaches of the Year for girls.

Gabe Pongasi and Eric Garcia were first-team selections in the triple jump and pole vault, respectively. Carson also had its 800 and 1600 teams honored.

Douglas' Nick Maestretti, the state champion, was a first-team selection in the pole vault. Justin Dry was a second-team selection in the discus. On the girls' side, Douglas' Amanda Brazeau was a first-team selection along with Bri Burnside (discus). Aspen Abbott (800) also was a second-team pick.

Reno's Micholas Norton was named the Athlete of the Year. McQueen's Arnold Carrillo was Runner of the Year and Spanish Springs' Vance Lively was named Field Athlete of the Year. Parise was named Coach of the Year.
