RENO (6-3, 6-2) AT CARSON (7-1, 7-0)
FRIDAY, 7:30 P.M.
OFFENSE: The Huskies come into the game averaging nearly 28 points a game. Coach Blair Roman said the Huskies are very creative in how they get the ball in the hands of tailback Nicholas Norton. The Huskies will line up in several different formations, according to Roman. The triggerman is Justin Cartlidge, who can throw and run. Carson is coming off a nice performance against Galena where they averaged nearly a first down per snap thanks to TD runs of 65 and 25 yards by Dylan Sawyers. QB Matt Nolan also was effective in his half of play against the Grizzlies.
Advantage: Carson
DEFENSE: Angel Becerra heads up a strong, physical Reno defense. Norton also plays outside linebacker. The Huskies have been kicked around a bit in the last two weeks, losing 28-0 to McQueen and 42-7 to Reed. Roman expects to see an emotional Reno team on Friday. Carson's defense allowed just 10 points last week, but did allow over 300 yards total offense. Brock Pradere came up with a big interception return that represented a 14-point swing at the time.
Advantage: Carson
SPECIAL TEAMS: Austin Pacheco didn't attmpt a field goal last week, but was 5-for-5 on extra points and had several touchbacks. Hard to go against Carson ever in this category as long as Pacheco is healthy.
Advantage: Carson
PREDICTION: Carson is in the same position it was last year - going into the final regular-season game undefeated and going against Reno. Hopefully the older players will remember last year and not let history repeat itself. Roman said that if Carson can complete an undefeated league season it will be the first since Carson started playing 3A and 4A football. I expect a very physical game.
