Lyon County Manager Jeff Page addressed the Dayton Regional Advisory Council on Wednesday on the issue of the Dayton Community Center.
Page explained that staff and community members have discussed the possibility of working with a private not-for-profit to take over the management and maintenance of the center.
Page said Lyon County is not threatening to close the center, but rather, is looking at all options to reduce fiscal impacts for maintenance of community centers.
He provided examples of the Jeanne Dini Theater in Yerington and the Smith Valley Community Center as some entities being managed and operated independent of local government.
Several people present at the Wednesday meeting suggested a workshop with the county commissioners, Lyon County staff and DRAC, so a meeting has been set for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at the community center.
The purpose of the workshop will be to address the future management and maintenance of the community center, identify facility improvement needs and listen to residents as to what they want from their community center, Page said.
