Helping Hands Program was a tremendous success

Once again I am truly amazed at the Builders Association of Western Nevada and Professional Women in Building. On Sept. 17, this group of hard-working and dedicated professional women successfully completed the Helping Hands Program, which assisted 11 single female homeowners that had "honey do" lists and no honey to do them. Even with the downturn in the economy, they decided to shrink the program from previous years instead of just giving up. The program houses were all in Carson City.

The council, which is made up entirely of volunteers, includes Jana Shires, president, Incline Builders; Jennifer Duve', member, Miles Construction; Jacquie Seyler, member, First Centennial Title; Bobbi Yasmer, member, Bayliss & Associates; and Kristen Marshall, member, Incline Builders. A special thanks is extended to these devoted, talented women.

Each member took a construction crew made up of employees from Miles Construction, Incline Builders, Ridgeline Construction, Coons Construction, and Rite of Passage. All our material was supplied by donations, the construction companies, NV Energy (which donated additional energy-efficient items for each home), and everyone else whom I may have forgotten to mention.

And our council extends a sincere thank you to BAWN. Through all your continued support for PWB, you have helped us realize our dream in making our program such a success; we couldn't have done it without all of you!

I am honored to be part of this extraordinary group of women who together keep making a positive difference in other's lives.

Thank you to all who made Seeliger Pumpkin Patch a success

Seeliger Elementary School would like to thank the community of Carson City for supporting our annual Pumpkin Patch fundraiser on Oct. 8.

This year's event included local crafters, pumpkins for sale, a cake decorating contest, carnival games, inflatables to jump on, a dunk tank, balloons, delicious food, and tethered hot air balloon rides. The Seeliger staff and parents organized and ran the food and game booths. Local businesses, along with crafters, provided numerous raffle prizes.

Thanks to these local businesses for providing gifts or certificates: Adeles, American Housekeeping, Anytime Fitness, Artisan Cafe, Attitudes Hair Salon, Bella Salon and Spa, Bike Habitat, Bobby Page's, Carson Station Casino, Casino Fandango, Christensen Automotive, Dream Dinners, Dutch Bros., Gold Dust West Casino and Greenhouse Garden Center.

Other donors included Heidi's, In-N-Out Burger, Jack in the Box, McDonald's , Nevada Children's Museum, Play It Again Sports, Pizza Factory, Purple Avocado, Qdoba, Red's Old 395 Grill, San Rafael Coffee, Shear Designs, Sierra La Bone, Starbucks, Sun Spot, Supercuts, Taco Bell, Tires Plus, The Basil, US Submarine Base, and Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Special thanks also go to Capital Beverage for delivering and unloading the 800 pumpkins, Re/Max for providing the hot air balloon and Papa Murphy's for the hot pizzas.

The Seeliger PTO, under the guidance of the president Carol Earle, spent many hours preparing food, games and music to make this year's Pumpkin Patch a success. Profits from this event go directly to classrooms. Money is used for student activities and supplies.
