PREPS: Sierra Lutheran girls make history

The Sierra Lutheran volleyball team captured the school's first regional win in any organized sport Friday night.

The No. 2 seed defeated McDermitt 25-18, 13-25, 20-25, 25-23 and 16-14.

The Falcons were down 13-4 in Game 5 before Amy Westre served 10 straight point leading the Falcons to the win.

Tiffany Patrick led the team with four aces, eight kills, a block, a dig and 32 assists; Hannah Ediss had 13 kills and two digs and Jessica Olson had two aces, 10 kills and a block.

Sierra Lutheran plays in the regional semifinals at 11:40 a.m. today at Wooster. They play the winner of the Smith Valley-Eureka match which was unknown as of presstime.

The finals are set for 2 p.m. today at Wooster.


JV FOOTBALL

CARSON GOES 8-0

Garrett Schafer threw for 232 yards and three TD passes as Carson High ended the season unbeaten with a 35-0 win over Reno Friday night.

Schafer completed 15 of 18 passes. His favorite target was Austin Shaffer, who caught seven passes for 116 yards. Shaffer also rushed six times for 54 yards and a score. Gehrig Tucker caught four balls for 41 yards and a score.

Nevin Elliott rushed 10 times for 82 yards, as Carson finished with 475 yards total offense. Dakota Backer and Austin Kiesow had the other TD receptions.

Cody Cunningham and Steffan Sobkiewicz led the defense with eight tackles apiece, while Elliott and Tucker added seven each. Shaffer and Kyle Denning contributed six tackles.
