Walk-A-Thon was an enormous success

Pinon Hills Elementary School staff, students, and Parent Teacher Organization would like to thank all the generous businesses and families for helping to make our second Walk-A-Thon such an enormous success.

With the students' hard work getting sponsors and the generosity of our wonderful community members and businesses, we were able to raise more than $33,000. All that money will stay at PHES to be used to purchase items and equipment for the students and school. What a wonderful reminder of how much this community values education for our children!

A very special thank you to our principal, Rommy Cronin, for agreeing to eat dog food if the kids met the school goal. Not only did the kids go the extra mile, but so did their principal.

Boy Scouts

Our Boy Scouts of America Cub Scout Pack 837 just finished its annual fundraiser selling popcorn in the community. It amazes me that 10-15 packs and troops can sell popcorn and be successful in an economy such as Nevada and our nation have right now. This wouldn't be possible without a community like Carson City, regardless of the high unemployment.

The character connections for the Scouts in the months of September and October are cooperation and responsibility. Many thanks go to the cooperation of the businesses and folks who allowed our Scouts to fulfill their responsibility of supporting their local pack, troop, and area council. I am extremely grateful to be a part of Scouting in this community.

Pooch Plunge greatly helps dog park

Parks 4 Paws Pooch Plunge held Sept. 17 and 18 was a great success. More than 100 dogs and their owners showed up to take advantage of the wonderful weather for that last swim of the season at the Carson Aquatic Center in the outdoor pool.

I would like to thank Kurt Meyer and his assistant Ian and his dog Walter of the aquatic center for making the event a success. In addition, thanks to Anne Butler, Donna Curtis, Georgia Kinkella, A.J. and Chuck Matule, Laura Redmon and Jan Shaw for helping to man the gates and keep things running smoothly.

In addition, a big thank you to ALSCO for providing drying towels for all participants. Parks 4 Paws anticipates opening the designated dog park very soon.

Bordewich-Bray Jog-a-Thon a success

On behalf of the Bordewich-Bray Elementary School staff, we would like to give a special thank you to all the students, parents and other friends who recently supported our Jog-a-Thon. The generosity of our community helps us to support and enhance our children's education through various enrichment activities throughout the year.

Thanks also to the parents who helped with our event, from counting the money to handout out snacks, taking pictures, monitoring the track and to Gracie our school mascot.

We would also like to thank Kristen, Sherry, Russ and their staff at the Governor's Mansion for hosting the luncheon which was prepared by Grandma Hattie's.

Also, a special thank you to Kohl's for the volunteers who helped with the event as well as their donation to our school.
