Carson Midgets win Snow Bowl

The Carson Pop Warner Midget team won the Snow Bowl by beating the Reno Wolf Pack 26-7 Saturday in Sparks.

Carson has a first-round regional bye, and will return to action Thanksgiving weekend in Santa Clara. If the local team wins that game, it would qualify for the national tournament in Florida.

Carson, 8-0, has outscored opponents 242-46 this season.

Josiah Pongasi threw a 35-yard TD pass to Victor Castro Jr. and ran for an 8-yard score. Elijah Fajayan had a 67-yard TD run and Brady O'Keefe had a 1-yard scoring run.

Carlos Pacheco, Salvador Rodriguez, Tyler White, Christopher Rose, Logan Menzel and Collin Geralds all played well offensively.

Castro led the defense with three interceptions, while O'Keefe contributed six tackles with Asa Carter and Fajayan adding five each. Jonathon Artz, Bradley Moose, Michael Gould, Austin Lowe, Jared Akers, Nathan Massic, Tristian Wadsworth and Kevin Rusler also played well on defense.

Because of the cost involved in traveling to regionals and possibly nationals, the Pop Warner program is asking for donations to defray travel/lodging expenses. All donations are tax deductible. Junior Midgets win consolation title

The Carson Pop Warner Jr. Midget Senators won the Snow Bowl consolation game by defeating the Reno Wolfpack 38-12 on Saturday.

Connor Pradere ran for a touchdown and threw for two more scores in the game. Johnny Cavilia scored on a 7-yard run and a 20- yard reception. Harry Meyer scored his first touchdown of the year on a 15-yard reception.

The Senator defense got on the scoreboard as well with Gage Gunzburg taking an interception back 100 yards for a touchdown and Jordan Aikins picking up a touchdown on a fumble recovery.

Carson finished the season 6-3 and finished third in the seven-team league.

Tigersharks fare well during the weekend

More than 400 swimmers from California and Nevada converged on the Carson Aquatic Center for the Fall Franzy, an age-group swim meet.

The Carson team had more than 60 swimmers in the meet, according to coach Gaby Phalan.

The local swim club also collected and delivered donations to the Veterans Guest House.

Stella Carroll, 13 and Ashley Meyer, 13, both recorded new state times in the 500 free and 200 fly, respectively.

Carroll dropped seven seconds in her 500 free time (6:17.97) and also swam a 2:56.82 in the 200 fly for a second state qualifying time. She dropped three seconds in the 200 free (2:22.44), one second in the 100 back (1:14.60), two seconds in the 200 IM (2:43.81) and three seconds in the 100 free (1:06.8).

Meyer' state qualifying swim was 2:59.45 in the 200 fly and she dropped 14 seconds in the 500 free in 6:13.12, also a new state time. She dropped four seconds in the 200 free (2:24.18), one second in the 50 free (30.7) and one second in the 200 IM (2:45.7).

Vanessa Rauch, 15, dropped four seconds in the 100 fly (1:14.03), one second in the 100 back (1:08.85), best time in the 50 free (28.5) and four seconds on the 200 IM (2:33.97). Maya Vasquez, 12, dropped three seconds in the 50 breast (47.66), five seconds in the 100 back (1:30.8), three seconds in the 50 back (41.0), five seconds in the 100 free (1:21.3) and a new best time of 1:49.6 in the 100 breast. Blanca Sosa dropped five seconds in the 100 back (1:22.6), two seconds in the 50 free (31.4), two seconds in the 50 back (36.3), two seconds in the 100 free (1:12.1) and eight seconds in the 100 breast (1:34.6). She also established a new time in the 50 breast at 41.6.

Brett Kolb, 11, dropped four seconds in the 100 IM (1:21.7), dropped a second in the 50 back (37.5) and dropped two seconds in the 50 fly (33.2). Jay Session, 12, dropped two seconds in the 200 free, four seconds in the 100 butterfly, one second in the 50 butterfly and two seconds in the 100 free (1:12.6). A.J. Gutierrez dropped three seconds in the 100 back, while Brennan Pott, 9-10, dropped six seconds in the 50 back, six seconds in the 50 fly, 10 seconds in the 100 back and three seconds in the 50 free.

CMS 7th graders remain undefeated

Carson Middle seventh-graders posted easy wins over South Tahoe (36-18) and Carson Valley (33-9) to remain undefeated at 6-0.

Tez Allen and Brandon Gagnon led Carson over South Tahoe with eight points apiece, while Jayden DeJoseph added five.

Against Carson Valley, Greg Wallace scored 10 and Jace Keema added seven.

Carson middle 8th graders off to 4-2 start

The Carson Middle School eighth-grade squad is 4-2 through its first six games.

Carson beat Pau-Wa-Lu 37-17, Fernley 50-27, South Tahoe 50-22 and Carson Valley 39-35. The losses came to Winnemucca 31-26 and Fallon 50-38.

Eddie Duarte scored nine and Ian Schulz added eight in the win over Pau-Wa-Lu, while Jared Rooker scored 14 and Duarte added eight against Fernley. Against South Tahoe, Asa Carter and Logan O'Day scored 10 points apiece. Carter led the way against Carson Valley with 14. Cody Azevedo led CMS against Winnemucca with 11 points, while Carter and Ty Maurer scored 10 each against Fallon.

Comstock hoop signups are under way

Registration for the Comstock youth basketball program in Dayton are currently under way and run through Dec. 7.

The program is open to boys and girls in first through eighth grades. Co-ed teams are in third-fourth, fifth-sixth and seventh-eighth grades. Kids in first and second grade have Saturday morning skill clinics. Games begin on Jan. 9.

Trejo signs with Southern Utah for gymnastics

Natalie Trejo, a member of Deltchev Gymnastics in Reno and a student at Carson High School, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Southern Utah University.

Barnard records ace at Silver Oak

Travis Barnard aced the 124-yard par-3 second hole at Silver Oak Golf Club recently. Barnard used a pitching wedge on his shot which was witnessed by Shayna Ruybalid.

CVGC passes on sale

Season passes for the 2012 golf season at Carson Valley Golf Club go on sale Dec. 15 at 8 a.m.

The passes are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. If you purchase on Dec. 15 you will receive a dozen personalized golf balls.

A singles pass is $900 if you walk and $1,375 if you want to ride. The cost for a couple to walk is $1,550 and it's $2,300 with a cart.
