The Nevada Appeal's "Silver Dollar" and "Wooden Nickel" feature recognizes positive achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out others that missed the mark.
SILVER DOLLAR: To everyone in the community who has or will help make the holidays brighter for those in need. Within the last week we have seen a $5,000 donation to Food for Thought and a $5,000 donation to Friends in Service Helping from Dick Campagni's Carson City Toyota Scion and Toyota USA. The donations will help the charitable hunger organizations during the holidays.
We also saw the community drop off nearly 800 turkeys during the annual Turkey Roundup at Mike's Pharmacy. The turkeys dropped off along with other nonperishable items will go to the Salvation Army, which will share the food with the Ron Wood Family Resource Center, FISH and food banks in Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties.
While we are spending time with our loved ones this holiday season, we should all keep those less fortunate in mind.
The Nevada Appeal is compiling a list of local businesses, organizations or individuals who are helping residents of Carson City and the surrounding communities during the holidays.
If your group is hosting a coat, toy or food drive, angel tree or other charitable effort, please send the information to us and we'll publish it. Include your business or group's name, address, a contact number and a description of the service you are providing or donations needed. Please e-mail the information to editor@nevadaappeal.com, subject line Holiday Help, or mail to Nevada Appeal, Holiday Help, 580 Mallory Way, Carson City NV 89702.
