Nevada bear hunt count up to 13

(AP) - Hunters have bagged 13 bears in Nevada's inaugural bear hunt, and the season is still one female away from coming to an end.

Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman Chris Healy on Tuesday said all but two of the bruins have been killed east of U.S. 395 south and east of Gardnerville.

None have been killed in the Lake Tahoe Basin, where opposition to the hunt was strongest.

Healy also adds that none have been tagged as having previous run-ins with humans.

The season opened Aug. 20, and 41 hunters received tags. State wildlife commissioners set a limit of 20 bears that can be killed, of which no more than six can be female. The season will close once either threshold is met.
