130 YEARS AGO

An object of curiosity. Yesterday people on Carson street were startled to see a shapeless, nondescript mass moving along the Capitol square sidewalk. The object was a conglomeration of rags, bags, tin pans, and large baskets - the whole over six feet high. An enterprising spirit when to investigate and found under the mass an old squaw, almost 100 years old. Nothing could be seen of her but the four inches of the bottom of her thin legs with what once was red drawers.

100 YEARS AGO

John Barrett of Rawhide says the town is very quiet this fall. Both mills have closed due to the weather and the cyanide plants are out of commission. The camp is awaiting the advent of electric power. Up to the present every hoist and mill has been run with gasoline and by the time the fluid reaches the mines it becomes a luxury.

70 YEARS AGO

Eighty-eight revocation of driver's licenses and eight suspensions have been ordered by the driver's license division. Most of those revocations were for drunken driving.

50 YEARS AGO

Ramshackle houses and garages in the state capital complex are being demolished to cut down the fire hazard on the 26-acre area. There are about three houses and five or six garages that are collapsing and considered fire traps. The land will later be leveled and treated to keep the weeds and dust down.

20 YEARS AGO

Sprouse-Reitz files for Chapter 11 protection. The firm closed two of its stores in Carson City the previous year.

10 YEARS AGO

General Electric buys Bently Nevada Corporation.
