Kids & Horses hires a new business and volunteer manager

MINDEN - The Kids & Horses Therapeutic Riding Center has hired Barbara Morningstar as business and volunteer manager.

Morningstar's job duties will be to develop policies, find efficiencies and manage the daily office operations at Kids & Horses. She will also recruit and train new volunteers to sidewalk during lessons and help with administrative and cleanup duties around the ranch. Morningstar also hopes to train

to become a

certified PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International) instructor while at Kids & Horses.

Morningstar is retiring early from the State

of Nevada to accept her "dream retirement job" at Kids & Horses. After volunteering Sunday afternoons the past three years, she knew that was what she wanted to do.

"There is nothing like seeing the day to day benefits of the program for the kids I've been involved with in lessons," said Morningstar.

Morningstar served as personnel officer and management analyst for the Department of Taxation, after previously working in Human Resources at Douglas County School District and in California at Pacific Gas and Electric Company. She and her daughter adopted their first mustang in 2001, her first experience with horses. They now own two and cannot imagine life without them. "Barb's enthusiasm, horse experience and passion for the mission of Kids & Horses will serve her well at Kids & Horses," said Alexis Roman Hill, executive director of Kids & Horses.

"Her background at the State and human resources experience will be a valuable asset to our program as we grow to serve more students in the future," Hill said.

Kids and Horses, founded in 1999 by Lake Tahoe businessman and philanthropist Sam Waldman, is educational program offering horsemanship as a means of therapy to improve strength, coordination and self esteem for children and adults with physical and/or emotional disabilities.
