CLOVIS, Calif. - Carson High's girls' cross-country team improved its time by 90 seconds en route to a 10th-place finish in the seeded race at the Clovis Invitational Saturday at Woodward Park.
"I ran them in the wrong race," coach Pete Sinnott said. "They'd been running so well that I ran them in the tougher race. If they had run in the large-school race they would have won it."
April Shonnard finished 13th overall, clocking an 18:33 for th 3.1-mile course, while Alex Drozdoff was 27th in 18:56. Cindy Juchtzer was the third Carson finisher, clocking a 19:34. Erika Sosa ran a career-best 20:02 and Mallory Wilson rounded out the Carson scorers with a 20:06. Chelsea Gordon ran a 21:35 and Avery Hudak ran a 23:23.
Sinnott didn't have the individual places for his boys' team which finished 19th out of 29 teams in the large-school race.
Taylor Bradshaw ran a 16:55 and Michael Shonnnard was next with a 16:56. Nick Greene was third at 17:48, Chris Merriner was the fourth CHS finisher at 17:54 and Danny Jauregui was fifth at 18:29.
Carson returns to action Saturday at the Bella Vista Invitational.
