S.A.R.A. - Sexual Assault Response Advocates
Not many people even know about this program. The program stared in 1996 when a local nurse at Carson-Tahoe Hospital asked a domestic violence advocate if she would come in and help support a young woman who had been raped.
At that time there was no sexual assault program in Carson City. Thanks to Kerrie Solmaassa and Advocates to End Domestic Violence there is now.
The Sexual Assault Response Advocates program has developed training, procedures and volunteer responsive advocates to help assist a person that has been sexual assaulted. If you want to help someone who deserves the needed support and care when traveling through the medical and legal systems in the aftermath of a sexual assault, sign up for the next S.A.R.A training.
Volunteers like you make the difference.
WHAT: Sexual Assault Response Advocates: Provide comfort, support and education
WHEN/WHERE: Call and sign up for the next training session. You must be 18 years old. It includes 40 hours of educational training dealing with sexual assault, a one-year commitment and being on call one week every other month.
