130 YEARS AGO

Yesterday was the opening day of Nevada's State Fair and with most first days the attendance was light. Our reporter, who is a veritable young Washington and cannot tell a lie says he saw no mammoth pumpkins, no noiseless sewing machines, no back-action pianos, no self-propelled baby-hawkers, in fact, he saw nothing but races. The number at the track was 300-400 and the first race was but one entry, Winter's filly Duchess.

100 YEARS AGO

During the past few months there has been a great amount of improvement to residence property in this city. All of the improvement is to the lasting benefit of the city that not only adds to property values, but is a help in every way to the city.

70 YEARS AGO

Chairman Archie Pozzi of the Ormsby county selective service board was advised today that Jack Raigle and Joseph Hilario of Stewart and Charles Ray Wilson and George John Oberfell of Carson were sent to Salt Lake City this week as Ormsby's quota for military training.

50 YEARS AGO

Seven young ladies will compete in the first full scale Miss Carson City contest in the Carson Theatre. Contestants include Patty Aul, Sharon Gold, Kathy Ann Owens, Lory Lee Parmenter, Carol Simmons and Cindy Wilson.

20 YEARS AGO

The Nevada State Railroad Museum has ended the signups for the Carson City Invitational Handcar Races on Nevada Day.

10 YEARS AGO

If everything goes according to plan, a 120-foot American Flag will be draped on "C" Hill.
