The suspect in a Reno shooting in which a Carson City man was killed and others were injured was arrested Wednesday in California.
Arturo Bolanos was arrested in Shasta County, Calif., during a traffic stop on a Reno warrant for suspicion of felony murder with a deadly weapon and three counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, said Reno police Sgt. Alan Salter.
Bolanos will remain in custody in Shasta County until extradition proceedings allow for his return to Reno, said Salter.
Bolanos, 25, of Kings Beach, Calif., and his friends allegedly got into an altercation Oct. 2 inside the Freight House bar in Reno with Macario Ortiz Jr., 28, of Carson City, and Ortiz's friends.
When bar security guards told the two groups to leave, both parties - purportedly members of rival gangs - ended up in a Second Street parking garage. Ortiz was in an SUV with several others when Bolanos allegedly open fire, shooting several rounds into the vehicle, said Reno police Lt. Mo Rafaqat. When the SUV crashed, Bolanos shot a fleeing victim and pistol-whipped the driver, police said.
Ortiz, a father of two, was pronounced dead at a Reno hospital. Three others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
During the search for Bolanos, Reno police, assisted by Carson City officers and the Washoe County Sheriff's RAVEN helicopter, converged on the northeast Carson City neighborhood of Northridge on Oct. 6. Several streets were blocked for more than an hour, and the helicopter made numerous passes before officers found that the suspect was not there.
