Officials to reconsider city's plans for multi-use athletic center

Supervisors on Thursday will consider approving an amended agreement between the city and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada for the purchase of property along Russell Way to build an indoor recreation center.

The Parks and Recreation Department is recommending the new agreement for the MAC, or multi-purpose athletic center, so that it more closely reflects the changes to the project from a recreation center to a scaled-back athletic center.

Supervisors also will consider abandoning the idea of a joint use agreement between the two entities, and instead could move ahead with a facility rental agreement.

Officials also are scheduled to discuss or take action to:

• Accept the recommendation of the Open Space Committee to apply for a grant to develop a trail connector between the Empire Ranch Trail and Riverview Park.

• Hear a presentation on a skills and competency survey which could be used to evaluate city staff.

• Adopt on a second reading an ordinance amending water, sewer and drainage, solid waste management and landfill rates.

• Reject a bid from Herback General Engineering for construction of Carson River Park Phase 2A, Carson River Road.

• Accept a bid from Horizon Construction, Inc. for construction of Carson River Park Phase 2A, Carson River Road.

• Present a proclamation designating Colonial Heritage Month for October.

Supervisors will reconvene at 5 p.m.:

• To appoint two members to the Planning Commission for terms which will expire in June 2015. The applicants are Jerry Cinani, Paul Esswein and Brian Hutchins. The reappointment requests are from Craig Mullett and George Wendell.

• To appoint one member to the Carson City Airport Authority in the pilot position, due to a member's term expiring. The two applicants are Raymond Pasch and Guy Williams.

The Carson City Open Space Advisory Committee meets at 6 p.m. Monday in the Sierra Room of the community center. Members are scheduled to:

• Present resolutions honoring Michael Fischer, M.D. and Stephen D. Hartman for their service and contributions to the Quality of Life Open Space Program.

• Discuss the conveyance of Carson City lands located in the upper reaches of Ash Canyon within the Carson Range to the United States as provided in the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009.

• Discuss the material and contents of the committee's manual.
