130 YEARS AGO

The eighth annual state fair of Nevada closed yesterday at Reno after a week's session. The stock display was a meager one. The races, the chief failure of the exhibition. The pavilion would have been discreditable to a western county fair of thirty years ago. All things considered, would it not be a good policy to suspend the annual exhibition until better times come.

100 YEARS AGO

The mining revival brings work into the V & T Shops. The shops are busy with all kinds of work, from autos to quartz mills being repaired and overhauled. Recently the shops have been turning out a lot of work for the Comstock. The motors for the new Mexican Mill are being cast. The time was when the shops in this city made every piece of machinery and material used on the river mills.

70 YEARS AGO

Disabled ex-service men, patients of U.S. Veteran's hospitals have been making 50,000 poppies each week in preparation for the annual Buddy Poppy Sale of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars. Be it known that these poppies are fashioned by the hands of disabled veterans.

50 YEARS AGO

The water situation could be critical next year unless there is heavy precipitation this winter. The western states will have less water in storage than any other year on record.

20 YEARS AGO

District Judge Norman Robison is considering a petition to recall the Genoa Town Board. The petition seeks removal of the board after a proposal to tax the town's annual Candy Dance.

10 YEARS AGO

A suspicious envelope discovered at Carson City Hall Monday was turned over to officials and tested for Anthrax.
