Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels: Governor working to make Nevada players in decision 2012

The Nevada Appeal's "Silver Dollar" and "Wooden Nickel" feature recognizes positive achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out others that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Gov. Brian Sandoval, for working to break the GOP impasse over the state's mid-January caucus date.

WOODEN NICKEL: To those who could volunteer - but don't - to help with Carson High School's "sober graduation" celebration. Because of a lack of volunteers, the program may not come off this year. It would be the first time since its inception in 1988 that the program hasn't happened. Anyone who can help is invited to a meeting at 6 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Carson High library, 1111 N. Saliman Road.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson City's Open Space Division for trying to obtain state grant money to link a couple of popular bike trails in town. And here's hoping the city offers to match the grant to better its chances of approval.
