130 YEARS AGO

There is a man in California who has a snake in his stomach and is obliged to drink large quantities of whiskey to keep the reptile stupefied, as it causes him great pain when it is lively. He is the envy of all his neighbors.

100 YEARS AGO

Little Fong, the local man from China, who was rounded up for selling whiskey to the Indians, received his sentence -13 months at McNeill's Island, Washington. Little Fong originally was useful around town. He was employed extensively among the housekeepers. With his sentence, it is hoped the whiskey selling practice in Chinatown is pretty well broken up.

70 YEARS AGO

W.A. Chalfant, W.C. Parcher, Louis Serventi and Wart T. Parcher, all of Bishop, Calif., were visitors to the Appeal office today. Chalfant is the Sierra area historian and editor-publisher of the Inyo Register.

50 YEARS AGO

Ernest Mitler, who recently compiled an investigation report on state adoption practices, has recommended the outlawing of all adoption placements by physicians and attorneys. Mitler was working on a model state adoption code to prevent "baby selling."

20 YEARS AGO

Three embattled Genoa Town Board members are circulating a petition to counter a recall move led by a couple frequently involved in local controversies.

10 YEARS AGO

(Photo Caption) A controversial Joe Bob Chicken cartoon billboard in Washoe Valley is vandalized. A bare-breasted cartoon chicken that has ruffled feathers is no longer baring all.
