130 YEARS AGO
A jail-break at Tombstone. Yesterday afternoon while the jailer was up town, his assistant had occasion to open the door leading into the prisoners' room. He was caught by Jim Sharpe, the Charleston murderer, and dragged into the room. When Sharp, Thompson and Milt Hicks, prisoners, rushed out, they locked the keeper into the room and made their escape. The sheriff and posse are in pursuit.
100 YEARS AGO
The sending of the Orphans Home children to the public schools in this city, which was originally put to the test as an experiment, is proving a success in every feature. The children are making far better progress as a whole than possible under tuition in the Home.
70 YEARS AGO
Nineteen P-40 fighting planes scattered over the Tehachapis of California with eight landing in Smith Valley. One plane crashed but the pilot, Lieut. J.H. Pease, bailed out safely. Another plane crashed and burned 10 miles south of Yosemite. The eight spent the night with residents of Smith Valley.
50 YEARS AGO
Competing for the honor of being chosen Miss Nevada are Miss Tonopah, Miss, Sparks, Miss Yerington, Miss Carson Valley, Miss Stewart and Miss Carson City. Miss Nevada, Sherri Wagner, will be present for the crowning ceremony.

Unemployment in Nevada increased to 5.8 percent in September, up 0.4 percent from August.

The Reno Flamingo Closes, sending some 1,000 employees looking for work.
