LAS VEGAS - The candidates in Nevada's House special election released new TV ads on Wednesday in a final push to sway voters.
Republican Mark Amodei's ad declares that government needs to get out of the way of hardworking Nevadans. Democrat Kate Marshall also focuses on the economy in her ad by promising to protect tax dollars and the middle class.
Early voting for the Sept. 13 special election ends Friday. The winner will replace Republican Dean Heller, who was appointed to the Senate in May to replace Republican Sen. John Ensign.
Amodei, a former state senator and Nevada GOP chairman, has sought to link Marshall to President Barack Obama.
"We were promised recovery. We've been given misery," Amodei says in his ad, as pictures of Obama, Vice President Biden and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid fill the screen. "Let's get Washington's attention."
Marshall, the state treasurer, has slammed Amodei for passing tax increases as a state lawmaker. She has campaigned as a moderate in the Republican-leaning district.
"When you work for government you are there for the people. You work for them," she says in her new ad. "They pay you with their tax dollars. You should never abuse that. My job is to make sure that we have our middle class."
