The recent shooting incident has brought a reality to Carson City that is beyond most people's comprehension no matter where you live, senseless acts can affect us all. My prayers are with each family whose loss is beyond words. But I also know this community and we will come together and help anyway we can.

SOROPTIMIST 'STROKE TO HELP

GOLF TOURNAMENT

This event by Soroptimist International of Carson City helps provide free mammograms to the underserved women in our community. To date, there have been more than 1000 screenings or ultrasounds and 20 biopsies for women with no insurance or no financial ability to pay. It also has fun contests, great raffle prizes and hole-in-one prizes on each course. Your participation will help to support our Club's free mammogram program for women as well as other Club projects that help to improve the lives of women and children in our community

WHAT: Golf, food and a fundraiser to fight breast cancer

WHEN: Sept. 24. Sign-in 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. shotgun

WHERE: Eagle Valley Golf Course East/West Course

COST: $85 includes the green fee, cart, breakfast and barbecue

KERRI OXOBY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP GOLF TOURNEY & BBQ

Come play a great game of golf for a great cause. Each year the entire Oxoby family and friends get together to celebrate Kerri Oxoby with a game of golf and barbecue afterwards. Kerri's Memorial Scholarship helps two Carson High graduate students each year continue their educational dreams. If you can't play, swing by for the barbecue, drop by a donation or say hello and share a story about Ms. Kerri.

WHAT: Golf, barbecue, and music by Accent from 1-3 p.m. and helping a great cause

WHEN: Sept. 11 Registration 7:30-8 a.m., Shotgun start at 9 a.m. Four person Scramble

WHERE: Golfing at Silver Oaks Golf Course, 1251 Country Club Drive, BBQ at 1224 Crain St., Carson City

COST: $110 per player includes golf, golf cart, range balls and BBQ following tourney

UPDATE: Congratulations to Grant Brewer on his project, "Ending Empty Bellies" a food drive to assist Ron Wood Family Resource Center, Friends in Service Helping (F.I.S.H.) and Food for Thought. I stopped by and he had a tremendous amount of food donated, so thank you. As a community, we always pull together and make it better.
