Lyon County Sheriff's deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol stopped two runaways from Rite of Passage on a high-speed chase on U.S. Highway 95 south Tuesday before they entered the incorporated areas of Churchill County.

Churchill County Sheriff Ben Trotter said the teenagers escaped from the facility that works with troubled and at-risk youths. Trotter said they stole a vehicle and headed east toward Schurz and then north to Fallon.

Trotter said local law enforcement established two checkpoints, determined not to allow another high-speed chase come into Fallon. He said the first checkpoint was set up near Berney Road, and the other with highway spikes set up near St. Clair Road and the highway.

"We were going to keep this incident out of town," he said.

Trotter said Lyon deputies and the NHP stopped the vehicle near the Churchill County landfill south of the Top Gun Raceway. He said the juveniles were taken into custody and returned to Lyon County.
