130 YEARS AGO

Left over: A woman with nine children came down on the train from Virginia City to Empire with nine children. Just as the train was about to start, she asked the Conductor to please go back and look under the seats to see if she'd left any. The Conductor and several passengers made an examination and found a little two year old fast asleep on one of the seats - and restored it to its mother...

120 YEARS AGO

The picnic: Twelve carloads of merry makers from Virginia came to drink in the fresh air of the valley and admire the productions of our gardens and after the usual inspection went to Treadway's Park to witness the sports pigeon match, rifle shoot, baseball.

70 YEARS AGO

Home Children: The children from the state orphan's home in Carson City were the guests of Reno Post No. 407 Veterans of foreign Wars at the West Coast Circus show. Governor E. P. Carville acted as master of ceremonies and the "pilgrimage" was led by Superintendent of the home E. C. Sloan.

50 YEARS AGO

The John C. Fremont Chapter, Daughters of the American Resolution, hosted the visit of State Regent Mrs. C. David Lambird. Local regent is Mrs. Cameron Batjer. Guests welcomed were Mrs. Robert Z. Hawkins of Reno. Additional members were Mmes, Ethel D. Waite, John Harvey, Frank Gregory, Lucy Crowell.

20 YEARS AGO

Gaming reveals only a 4.5 percent gain. The Gaming Control Board said that casinos won $476.7 million from gamblers in July. In planning the 1991-92 budget, state analysts projected a 7.5 percent increase.

10 YEARS AGO
