'Thank you' to Borders staff
As the days count down to your store closing I would like to "Thank You," all of you, for making each visit to your store a very fun and rewarding experience over the past eight years. Because it has always been you the people who have made Borders Books Carson City the shining star on the hill, I must ask each person who is reading this letter to stop by Borders Books Carson City and show your support for a great group of people and tell them thanks. This group of hard working people will never be replaced, you can count on that.
Best wishes to you all,
Dana Luterick

Many helpers made Backpack Attack a success
Linnie Chappell of Platinum + Salon & Spa and Soroptimist International of Carson City joined together to promote the 2011 Backpack Attack Program to obtain backpacks, school supplies and some health items for the far too many children in need within the community.
Through Linnie's presentations at various groups, ads in the Nevada Appeal by Soroptimist and the community-minded Carson City Toyota/Scion, Coldwell Banker Real Estate office, Marilyn Lewis State Farm Insurance, the Navy Recruitment Office, the members of Soroptimist International of Carson City and many community-minded citizens of Carson City and the surrounding areas, both individuals and companies, there were 211 backpacks filled with school supplies and health items supplied to the elementary, middle and high schools and other worthy groups to be given to children in need.
There were so many that came to help that it is impossible to name them all, but some very generous donations were made by Shannon McRae, Jay and Janet Peace, Snap-On Tools, Loma Seals, EXL Media Corp., Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada, and so many more. We thank each and every one for their donations of cash, supplies and backpacks, because without their help, the program would not have been so successful.
Members of Soroptimist International of Carson City worked many days to pack, sort and deliver the backpacks. Thanks to Jessie Keller, Joan Andreas, Lila Brown, Loretta Roche, Jean Bondiett, Mary and Stewart Knapp, Pat Riggs and Dixie Busch for all their work.

Girl Scout project successful
My name is Margaret Duvall, and I just completed my (Girl Scouts) silver project. I would like to thank the Nevada Appeal for helping with my publicity. So many people came because they saw the story.
The staff at the Nevada Appeal were, friendly and helpful, and one of the many integral teams. With your help it wouldn't have been possible.
We raised a whole $500 because of your help. Politicians, doctors and lawyers may have center stage, but it is the hard work of caring people like you who really run the show.
Thank you very much.
