William Claude Davis (Bill), born March 5, 1929 in Berkeley, California passed away September 2, 2011 at home surrounded by his loved ones. Bill retired from Kennametal as a mechanical engineer, but he was a man of many talents including world-wide traveler, mountain climber, writer, photographer and teacher. His greatest passion, however, was archeology and he wanted to ensure that Nevada's history was preserved. Bill recorded and published several reference books and conducted tours of historical sites in Nevada. He also organized mock archeological digs for children during the Spring Wings Festival each year.

Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather. We will miss his smile and wisdom and forever carry his optimism in our hearts.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, Claude Davis; mother Serena Landerous; brother, Richard Davis; sister, Jacqueline Fenn; and son, Wesley Davis.

He is survived by the love of his life, Dorothy Davis; brothers Robert Davis and James Davis (Corrie); sister, Louise Thompson (Dwaine); daughter, Jane Scheible (Leonard); and grandchildren, April Burdett (Ben); Samantha Scheible; Darrell Davis; Jayson Davis (Andrea); Andy Davis (Christy); Staci Shoemake and nine great-grandchildren.

Bill served in the United States Air Force and was a lifetime member of The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Military Honors will be conducted at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada at 11a.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011. In memory of Bill, donations may be made to the Churchill County Museum.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery & Crematory, 2949 Austin Highway, Fallon, NV 89406. 775-423-8928.
