NORTH VALLEYS (1-2) AT CARSON (0-1)
Friday, 7:30 p.m.
OFFENSE: The Panthers have always been able to put some points on the board, and are averaging nearly 27 points a contest despite losing their quarterback to graduation. James Munson has rushed for 320 yards and new QB Daniel Lewis has completed 34 of 54 passes for 358 yards and six scores. Jesse Krueger is a vertical threat with six catches for 97 yards. The Senators were blanked 34-0 by Highland of Pocatello two weeks. It was the first time Carson had been blanked since suffering a 52-0 defeat at the hands of McQueen on Sept. 5, 2008. Matt Nolan has been named the starter under center, and he rushed for 56 yards, while Dylan Sawyers, coming off surgery for a torn labrum rushed for 56 yards on 13 carries. Chance Quilling has moved from quarterback to wingback, and he lends a real physical aspect to that spot. The Senators need to take advantage of Nolan's ability to roll out. Sophomore Aaron Cowee has come back from a concussion and will see action at right tackle, while Joe Zinda will start at one tackle slot. Jordan Siembida will start at fullback. EDGE: CARSON
DEFENSE: This has been the one side of the ball the Panthers have usually struggled, and this year is no exception. After beating Hug 48-37, the Panthers gave up 34 to Spanish Springs and 58 to McQueen. Carson coach Blair Roman said the Panthers' back seven is very athletic. The Senators' secondary was picked apart two weeks ago, yielding more than 320 yards. The going will be a tad easier against Lewis, who is just a sophomore. The run defense was decent against Pocatello, and I expect the Senators' defense to be an angry group against the Panthers. EDGE CARSON
SPECIAL TEAMS: One would be hard-pressed to find anybody better kicking the ball than Austin Pacheco, who handles the punting and place-kicking for Carson. Pacheco averaged 40.5 on six punts and his only kick-off was a 50-yarder. EDGE CARSON
PREDICTION: The last two meetings between the schools has been one-sided, 45-26 and 50-0. I look for Carson to win again, though it may be closer than usual. CARSON 29, NORTH VALLEYS 6.
