DAYTON - Dayton High avenged two early season losses by sweeping Lowry 25-21, 25-12 and 25-15 Saturday afternoon in a Northern 3A volleyball match.

The sweep gives Dayton a 4-0 record heading into Tuesday's battle against 2A state champ Yerington.

"We're doing real well," Dayton coach Monica Halverson said. "I felt we were the underdog because they beat us twice when we went up there for a tournament.

"Our front line was pretty tough with good hits, kills and blocks. We're so much better since we played them (Lowry) the first time."

Madison Foley had nine kills and two aces, while Erin Edison added five kills, two aces and two blocks. Cassie DePew finished with two kills and three blocks, while Taylor Hill contributed two kills and two blocks

SOCCER

Carson girls trounce Panthers

RENO - Jamie Perez scored twice to lead Carson to a 6-1 win over North Valleys Saturday in a Northern 4A soccer match.

Carson improved to 3-1, bouncing back nicely from the loss to Douglas.

Carson coach Randy Roser said the score could have been worse. The Senators had three other scores called back.

"We started so slow," Roser said. "It's the coaches' job to get them to play more consistent. We looked tired; like we were dragging."

Kaitlyn Holmes got the Senators on the board in the 22nd minute, and Josilyn Daggs followed eight minutes later to make it 2-0 and Perez scored her first goal five minutes before intermission to make it 3-0.

Holmes assisted on Daggs' goal and on both of Perez's scores. Chantel Torres and Kenzie Tillitt scored the final two goals for the Senators.

Holmes finished with a goal and three assists.

"She's always been offensive minded," Roser said. "She's one of those players who is so consistent. She is always there. She isn't flashy like a Brandi Vega or Kenzie Tillitt. She goes unnoticed. She carried us today."

Carson hosts Wooster Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Carson, NV boys tie

RENO - The Senators battled back from a 2-0 deficit with two second-half goals to tie the Panthers.

Carson coach Eric Masters felt his team deserved a better fate.

"I thought we dominated the game," Masters said. "We played very well, especially to start the game. We put a tremendous amount of pressure on them. We had some great chances."

Neither team scored in the first half, but the Panthers scored twice in the first nine minutes of the second half fro a 2-0 lead.

In the 55th minute, Jason Martinez scored on a penalty kick, and then crossed a ball to Zach Bruce who tied the game.

Cristian Hernandez had a chance to put Carson ahead but his chip was cleared off the line by the Panthers.

Carson returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Wooster at 7 p.m.
