Tillitt scores four in Senators' easy win

It was a case of too much Kenzie Tillitt.

The Senators' dynamic midfielder scored four goals, two in each half, to lead the Senators to a 6-0 victory over McQueen in a Northern 4A crossover game Tuesday night at Carson High School.

It was the most goals in a single game this year for Tillitt, but it wasn't a career best for her. She had five in a game against North Valleys last season.

The win was a nice comeback after Saturday's loss to Bishop Manogue.

"By far," Tillitt responded when asked if this was her best game of the season. "We felt like after the game against Manogue we needed to bounce back from that. It was the low point of our season."

Tillitt admitted she was conflicted entering the contest. She was nervous, but also never more ready to play a game.

And, it didn't take her long to show the Lancers that they were going to be in for a long night.

Her first goal came in the third minute when she tapped one by Patricia Schwartz despite the fact that she was heavily marked by Danielle Lee. In fact, Lee was trying to body Tillitt off the ball to no avail.

"She was all over me the whole game," Tillitt said.

Approximately five minutes later, Tillitt fed a nice through ball to Josilyn Daggs, who beat Schwartz to make it 2-0.

The quick start definitely deflated any hopes McQueen had for an upset.

"I think it gets them down," Carson coach Randy Roser said. "They start to overcommit and chase instead of just playing their game."

"It puts a team on their heels (when you score quick like we did),'' Tillitt said.

Tillitt completed the first-half scoring when she converted a direct free kick in the 18th minute. It was Carson's fourth shot on goal and the team's third goal.

"I work on that shot a lot," Tillitt said. " I usually go far post, but she was hugging the post. I knew that if I got it over her head I would score."

The score could have been 5-0 at the half, but Kaitlyn Holmes missed a penalty kick and Daggs had a goal disallowed. Daggs also fired one over the crossbar with less than five minutes left in the half.

In the 65th minute Tillitt made it 4-0 and seven minutes later she made it 5-0 with a goal from about 20 yards. Alex Schlager completed the scoring with a penalty kick.

Throughout the game Roser said his players did a real good job of connecting their passes, a vast improvement from the debacle at Manogue.

"We were so frustrated at Manogue," the CHS coach said. "I thought we played really well tonight."
