Carson boys boot McQueen; golf team clinches regional berth

Carson High's boys soccer team rolled to a 5-0 win over visiting McQueen in a Northern 4A match Wednesday night.

The Senators were without coach Eric Masters, who missed the game because his wife delivered a new baby. In Masters' place was former CHS soccer and baseball star Matt Morgan.

The Senators enjoyed a 4-0 lead in the first half on two goals by Cristian Hernandez and one each by Michael Samii and Evan Sanchez, who also added an assist.

Sam Hutchinson scored Carson's lone goal in the second half on a penalty kick, the second one that the Senators converted during the match. Hutchinson was fouled in the penalty box and converted.

McQueen only attempted five shots, one on goal, thanks to the defensive work of Samii, Zach Smith Zach Bruce, Christian Navarro and Nate King.

Carson vists Galena Saturday at 1.

Carson JV boys win big

Six different players scored goals to lead the Senators to a 7-0 win over McQueen.

Fernando Torres led Carson with two goals, while Billy Goulardt, Dan Zuber, Ariel Vega, Milton Rodriguez and Robert Aboundis added a goal apiece.

Wyatt Cartier and Mario Escalante had two assists each.

Dayton girls blanked

TRUCKEE - Truckee limited Dayton to just three shots on goal in a 5-0 win over the Dust Devils Wednsday night.

Dayton goalie Muranda Fowler was credited with 25 saves, and Dayton coach Jared Miklich praised the play of Maribel Ledezma, who saw action as a stopper and midfielder.

TRUCKEE - The Dust Devils were locked in a scoreless tie for the first 25 minutes of the contest before the Wolverines exploded for six goals in the final 15 minutes of the half en route to an 11-0 win.

Coach Karl Watts praised the play of defender Danny Alfaro.

Carson girls third, clinch

spot in regionals

GENOA - Carson High's golf team finished third once again in the Sierra League Invitational at Genoa Lakes Wednesday afternoon.

The Senators finished with a 364, 20 shots behind Bishop Manogue and two shots behind Galena. Douglas was fourth with a 365.

Ali Vondrak led Carson with an 86, Heather Evans followed with an 89, Megan Justice had a 91 and Kristen Good a 98. Kahlia Wahpepah had a non-scoring 101 and Taylor Krupp had a non-scoring 103.

First-year coach Jeff Rispin said his team needs to develop more consistency and eliminate big numbers if it plans to make it to state.

"For our top three girls it's one hole per nine. With our bottom three girls it's two holes per nine," Rispin said. "If we get rid of the big numbers."

The regionals are scheduled Oct. 10-11 at Empire Ranch.

VOLLEYBALL

Yerington girls top Fallon

YERINGTON - The defending state champs improved to 20-3 with a 25-18, 25-20, 20-25 and 25-12 win over Fallon.

Yerington is now 20-3.

Makenna Lommori led the Lions with 18 kills, four blocks and 17 assists. Brooke Aiazzi added 13 kills and 31 assists, while Sabena Rogers had 18 assists and Amber Veil 13 digs.

Dayton sweeps Silver Stage

DAYTON - Dayton celebrated homecoming with an easy 25-8, 25-16 and 25-16 win over Silver Stage on Wednesday.

Dayton improved to 6-2.

Madison Foly had 11 kills and two digs, Erin Edison ahd four kills and two blocks, Cassie Depew had eight kills and four blocks, Elyse Fletcher served up four aces and had eight assists and Cora Jeffreys finished with four kills and12 assists.

"We played to our level which is good," Dayton coach Monica Halverson said. "We got to use our bench players and they did a good job."
