Washington: Mrs. Mary Jefferson Eppstein, granddaughter of Thomas Jefferson, visited the White House. She had with her a silver medal voted to Jefferson by the Continental Congress for his services to Liberty in drafting the Declaration of Independence.

120 YEARS AGO

Throwing fruit away: The Hon. H. F. Dangberg recently visited San Francisco and tried to dispose of his large crop of apples. The market in San Francisco was glutted and tons crops of pears, and apples were being thrown in the Bay. Mr. Dangberg is making cider from his apples and will have them on exhibition at the Pavilion in Carson. The cider is made from fine applies and has a delicious flavor. - Courier

Hollywood: Mickey Rooney turns 21. He began smoking cigars (for the movies) and celebrated his 21st birthday with a kiss from Judy Garland.

50 YEARS AGO

Eighth grade officers elected: Mr. Cowperthwaite's home-room - President, Vic Kangas; Vice President, Mary Crosby; secretary, Mary Buchanan, treasurer, Andrea Hesse.

20 YEARS AGO

New hospital administrator: Steven Smith of Shelton, Wash., was selected by the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Board. He has tentatively accepted the offer according to Betty Ihfe, hospital public relations officer, salary $75,000 to $85,000.
