Obituary: John F. Clark

Jack Clark was born on November 3, 1925. He was at the age of 86 when he succumbed to the effects of a stroke he suffered in the summer of 2011. Jack was peacefully resting at home at the time of his death. His wife Shirley described Jack in his final days of life as smiling as if he were seeing all of his lost family and friends in Heaven's gates. Jack died in his Carson City home on March 31, 2012.

Jack Clark was born and raised in Eugene, OR. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the Army Air Force where he spent most of his time on Okinawa during World War II. Jack graduated from the University of Oregon and was employed by Eugene Water and Electric Board as an electrical engineer. During Jack's career at EWEB he participated in the makings of the first electric cars and was in charge of programming and installing the first computer system to be used at EWEB.

Jack lived nothing short of a fulfilling life. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, loved to fly, was a member of the Civil Air Patrol in Douglas County where he earned the rank of Lt. Col. and was completely captivated by science and the universe as well as Nevada and the mountains.

Jack moved to Carson City in 1988 where he met his wife Shirley and they were married in 1992. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Arline Clark; first wife, Ellen Clark, and his step-son, Scott Rowan. Jack is survived by his spouse, Shirley; his step-son, Ronald Rowan and wife Stacy of Reno, NV, step-daughter Julie Rowan and Dean Reynolds of Carson City, NV; step-grandsons Joey Rowan, of Mildenhall Air Force Base in England, Bennett Rowan, Christopher Rowan and Tyler Rowan of Reno, NV. Although not designated so by blood relation, he was a loving and engaged grandpa to these children.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Jeffrey Basa, Gentiva, Vista Care and the Home Instead caregivers, especially Sandra Contreras, for the loving care they provided Jack during his illness.

A celebration of Jack's life will be held on April 21, at 1:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church at the corner of Musser and Division Streets in Carson City. Rev. Dixie Jennings-Teats will be the presiding minister assisted by Rev. Elizabeth Tattersall, CAP Chaplain.
