James H. Kinkead of Reno, has assumed the duties of private secretary to the governor during the absence of Colonel G.G. Lyon. On Sunday several hundred fresh wood cutters arrived in this city, and will be distributed among the various wood camps. There is an exhibition at the Ormsby House of a parsnip grown through the round bone of a round steak. It is a rare matter.

The new automobile for Judge Bartine has arrived and it is a fine example of the latest model machine. It makes a big, roomy easy-going car that should afford the Judge and his family a lot of pleasure.

The 12th naval district announced today a naval training base five times larger than the west coast station at San Diego will be built on the west shore of Lake Tahoe. Construction will start next month. Plans call for a technical school that will handle 30,000 apprentice seamen. The cost is estimated at $30,000,000.

Sheriff Robert Humphreys is stepping up enforcement of child neglect in Carson City following a rash of parents leaving children unattended while drinking in bars. The police had a record weekend of child neglect cases.
