130 YEARS AGO

On Sunday evening Jerry Raycraft stabbed Sheriff Williams of Douglas County in the back, while the latter was in the performance of his duty. Dr. Lee has been called. The altercation started when Raycraft started fighting with his brother, Tom in Livingston's Saloon Sunday. When the barkeep attempted to stop it, Jerry beat him unmercifully. When the Sheriff grabbed him, Jerry pulled a bowie knife through Williams hand and spine. Had his brother not been a deputy sheriff, he would not have been summarily dealt with.

100 YEARS AGO

Harry L. Taylor, president of the Nevada Deep Mines Company, who has a property at Como, has returned from San Francisco after ordering a 70-ton per day mill for his mine. He expects it will be running in 90 days. Extraction from the mill is expected to be well over 90percent.

70 YEARS AGO

Secretary of State Malcom McEachin warns that a car a minute goes off the roads following his trip to the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators meeting. "I do not want to appear to be an alarmist," stated McEachin, "but the average person does not appreciate or anticipate the strict care that must be taken in the days to come. (Because of the war and lack of services on Nevada highways)."

Grace Winchester is named recipient of the Nevada Division Award for the Humanities.

A meeting will be held today by members of the Carson City Committee to put H. Ross Perot on the presidential ballot.

Deputy Bob Guimont announces his candidacy for Carson City Sheriff.
