Carson grabs wild 5-4 win over Reed

SPARKS - It was a bizarre ending to a great game.

With Carson holding a 5-4 lead with one out in the seventh, A.J. Silva tried to score on a ball hit to deep left by Chuck Stroberg. Carson made two perfect relay throws, and then Silva tried to run over Rory Petersen at the plate, and not only was called out but ejected.

Charlie Banfield, Carson's second pitcher, alertly picked up the ball and threw out Stroberg who tried to go to third on the play to end the game and save the Northern 4A win for the Senators.

"No, I've never seen a game end like that," Carson coach Cody Farnworth said. "It was odd. Silva went way inside the baseline. The umpire made the right call. Silva and the ball got there at the same time. I don't know if Rory ever had the ball. Charlie g ot the ball and threw to third."

Reed took an early 2-0 lead against the Senators and Drew Moreland thanks to a two-run single by Connor Cox.

Carson took a 3-2 lead in the third when Gehrig Tucker tripled and scored on a single by Brock Pradere. After an out, Luke Maher hammered a two-run homer.

Reed went ahead 4-3 with two in the bottom of the third, knocking Moreland out of the game. Banfield went the final 3.1 innings to get the win, allowing just one hit.

Carson tied the game in the fourth when TJ Thomsen doubled and scored on a fielder's choice. Nick Domitrovich gave Carson a 5-4 lead with a run-scoring single in the sixth.

Domitrovich led Carson with three hits, while Thomsen and Casy Wolfe added two each.

Carson is 8-6 and travels to Lassen for a game on Saturday at noon.
