COMMUNITY: Four aces at local courses

Three local golfers recorded holes-in-one at Silver Oak Golf Club recently, and a fourth scored an ace at Genoa Lakes.

Gerard Morales aced the 131-yard par-3 12th using a 7-iron. The shot was witnessed by Craig Luce, Shawn Mott and Paul Carrion.

Jim Sewell aced the 114-yard par-3 2nd using a gap wedge. Jim Grivich, Bob Richard and Arlo Miller witnessed the shot.

Wade Sturgeon aced the 125-yard par-3 6th with a pitching wedge. Marcus Armstrong and Jeff Thompson witnessed the shot.

Steve Sharfe aced the par-3 8th at Genoa.


Lewis wins CVGC Stableford event

Daryle Lewis tallied 8 points to win the A Flight at the Carson Valley Men's Club Stableford Tournament on April 22.

Jeff Scheiber was second with 1. Bill Fraser and Tim Hines tied for third with 0.

Bruce Smith won the B Flight with 13, one point better than Anthony Moore. Joe Morrison was third with 5.

John Carey won Flight C with 5. Jim Arens was second with 4, while Jack Zippwald and John Pearson tied for third with 3.


Empire golfers hold tourney at Genoa

Allen Pizl, Mike Vadnais, Ed Rector and Tom Teders recorded a 113 to win Flight A at the Empire Ranch Senior Men's Club 2-man better ball tourney on April 18.

Geoff Swann, Dennis Justin, Robey Willis and Jim Farcello were second at 116 along with George Flamer, Scharfe, Joe Scott and Bill Gibson.

Don Burge, John Sullivan, Chris Nenze and George Allison won the B Flight. No score was reported. Charles Bell, Frank Romano, Richard Bell and Tom Harlow were second.


CSYFL slates cheer, player sign-ups

Carson Sierra Youth Football League will be holding sign-ups for football and cheerleading Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pizza Factory, located at 3120 Highway 50 East.

A second sign-up is scheduled May 20 from 10 am to 2 p.m. at the Governors Field Indoor Facility.

The Carson SYFL is in its fourth year and there are more than 5,000 players within Northern Nevada. Children ages 6-14 play with age peers under high school rules on 100-yard fields.

Practices start July 30 with the SYFL Experience on Aug. 11. Games begin Aug. 25.

Registration fees for football are $125 and cheer is $150. The players get to keep their integrated girdle, socks and they will receive a photo-mate picture and participation trophy. Financial aid and payment plans are available.

Pop Warner sets sign-up for Saturday

Carson City Pop Warner will hold football and cheerleading sign-ups Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carson Mall.

Players age 5 to 14 can sign up with a copy of their birth certificate.

Pop Warner Little Scholars is the oldest and largest youth football league in the country with more than 425,000 young people participating.

Carson Pop Warner is also introducing a new Unlimited Division for players between 11-14 weighing 105 pounds or more. There is no maximum weight limit. Pop Warner emphasizes athletics as well as scholastics for all of its participants.
