Jazz & Beyond offers ample events these hot August weekday afternoons and evenings to keep hard core music fans entertained.
If a play is your preference instead, the weekend beckons.
This evening, from 8-10 p.m. in the Comma Courtyard on Carson Street, the Millennium Bugs play "Hot August Jazz" as Carson City's music festival continues.
A jazz jam with John & Cherie Shipley is set Wednesday for 7:30 p.m. at Plan: b on Curry Street.
Thursday brings four opportunities for music:
• At 2:30 p.m., multi-instrumentalist Tom Miller plays at Sierra Place on West College Parkway;
• At 5 p.m., Mariachi Cazadores de Nevada play at El Aguila Real restaurant on U.S. Highway 50;
• At 6:30 p.m., Barbara Baxter appears at Adele's restaurant on Carson Street;
• And at 7 p.m., there is an open mic opportunity with Dale Poune at Plan:b.
Friday brings the youth musical "Glee" to the Brewery Arts Center on West King Street at 7 p.m.; Strings & All That Jazz to Comma Courtyard; The Novelists at 8 p.m. in Plan:b; and, also at 8 p.m., Melissa Dru does rock, hip hop and blues at the Carson Nugget on Carson Street.
If people prefer drama, Proscenium Players Inc. begins staging "Steel Magnolias" in the Maizie Harris Jesse Theater at the BAC on Friday.
The play starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, at 2 p.m. on Sunday. It will repeat on the following weekend at the same evening times Aug. 24 and 25, with the final performance a matinee at 2 p.m. on Aug. 26.
Jazz & Beyond, meanwhile, continues through this weekend with a host of events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. Some of those events will be published at mid-week.
