COMMUNITY: Kipling leads Tigersharks

Dagen Kipling enjoyed a big day at last weekend's Junior Olympic meet in Minden.

Kipling placed first and recorded Junor Olympic times in the 100 breast and 500 free. H also won the 200 breast and recorded a Far Western time. He was second in the 200 free and 100 IM and placed third in the 50 free.

Eli Everest won the 500 and 1,650, and placed second in the 1,000 free. Brett Kolb won the 100 and 200 free, was second in the 50 back, 500 free and 1,000 free and placed third in the 100 back, 100 IM and 200 IM.

Other highlights for the Tigersharks:

• Kaly Branco was third in the 200 back and 100 back; Reece Canfield was second in the 100 breast; Stella Carroll was third in the 1000 free; Gino Goggiano took third in the 100 back and A.J. Gutierrez was second in the 200 back; Ashley Meyer was second in the 1000 and 1650 free and third in the 500 free. Abby Pittman was third in the 1000 free.

The following swimmers placed in the top eight in their events:

• Miah Hessig, Sophie Holmes, Matteas Klatt, Karina Novoa, Varun Pandit, Hannah Presley, Taylor Rojo, Cristina Saenz, Jay Session, and Danielle Stanka.

Willis, Swan win

Empire Ranch event

Four teams shot a net 50 at the recent Empire Ranch Senior Men's Club two-man best ball event at the Incline Village Mountain course on Aug. 8.

The teams of Robey Willis and Geoff Swan, Roger Maxwell and Jim Bagwell, Dick Montoya and Dahl Rask, and Ken Stone and Mitch Rogers shot 50.

The teams of Randy Wegner and Jack Medeiros, Fred Perdomo and David Albers, and Tom Sawyer and Marshall McCurdy all shot 49 in the B flight. Paul Lockwood and Tom Harlow won C flight with a 48, one stroke better than Chris Nenzel and John Sullivan.

Poe, Pemberton team

up for CVGC victory

Charles Poe and Bob Pemberton combined for a net 64 to win the Carson Valley Men's Club event on Aug. 12.

Mike Davis and Mark Menezes were second with a 65. John and Tom Hines won the B flight with a 64, one stroke better than Chuck Householder and Joe Morrison. Jim Tavernier and John Pearson won C flight with a 66, one shot better than Bruce Sanford and Larry Lockwood.

T.C. women hold

annual tourney

Vickie Carl, Jeanne Brennan, Tracy Davis and Patty Davin combined for a net 248 to win the Thunder Canyon Ladies Club Invitational on Aug. 10-11.

The format was double barrel best-ball and shamble cha cha cha.

Mary Anderson, Hazel Bowen, Beth Shadle and Lori Gunderson were second with a 253.

The team of Virginia Bonar, Christy Atencio, helley Kinerson and Jai Kim won low gross with a 293, while Joann Sheerin, Joni Taylor, Artie Vanderbos and Dori Hewett shot a 308.

Carson goes 1-3

in regionals

Carson's Senior Little League all-star team finished up 1-3 in the regional tournament in Ontario.

After two losses to open the tournament, Nevada beat Montana 5-4 in eight innings before losing to Arizona 18-6.

Zac Harjes' infield roler scored Josiah Pongasi with the wining run in the eighth. Derek Encinas picked up the win against Idaho in relief of Seamus Burns. Ryan Doherty went 3-4, while Jacob Roll and Burns each went 2 for 3.

Arizona scored in every inning against Carson, which scored four in the fourth.

Noah Teixeira led the offense with three hits, while Harjes added two.

"This was a great experience for players and coaches," said manager Steve Weldy. "We would like to give our thanks to all the people that helped this team travel to regional play; the many people that donated their time to raise funds for these players. The businesses and individuals who donated money and goods showed their generosity of our community."
