An accident 10 miles east of Dayton Tuesday morning has killed four people, reports the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred in the westbound lane of U.S. Highway 50 on the western edge of Stagecoach. The highway is two-lane, but construction is underway to widen it before the route crests a ridge into Dayton Valley.

Three other people were transported by Care Flight to a regional medical center.

According to the NHP, three vehicles with trailers involved, one that was carrying cattle.

Troopers expect that portion of the U.S. Highway 50 to be closed for most of the day as troopers investigate the cause.

A local NHP spokesman in Fallon said traffic will be backed up in both directions and advised people traveling to Carson City to drive to Reno and then head south.
