HENDERSON - Carson High's volleyball team opened its 2012 season with a championship in the Green Valley Invitational over the weekend.

Carson compiled a 6-2 record, losing to defending state champion Green Valley and Slymar -Wyoming.

On Friday, Carson knocked off Pahrump 25-20 and 25-16, and then lost two straight. On Saturday, Carson knocked off Desert Oasis (25-17, 25-13), Calvary Chapel (25-13, 25-20), Chapparal (25-16, 25-18), Skyline (25-20, 25-19) and Centennial (25-17, 18-25-15-12). The latter match was for the Silver Division title.

"It was a good tournament. I'm very pleased," coach Robert Maw said. "I was very apprehensive coming in because we only had four or five starters back. We struggled a little on Friday night. The girls came back and played really well; played as a team. I was very pleased with Gabby Palazzolo and Kammy Forest in the middle."

Brooklyn Maw was named to the all-tournament team after 193 digs during the tournament. Kenzie Price was stellar, too. She had 31 assists, 22 kills, eight aces, 12 blocks and 25 digs. Courtney Hack had 98 assists, 13 kills, 12 aces, six block and 16 digs.

Forest had 19 kills and 31 blocks, while Palazzolo had four kills, five aces, two blocks and eight digs. Savannah Smith finished with 18 kills and 101 digs, while Danielle Good had 21 kills, six aces and 82 digs.
