Drive-through nativity scene planned

Carson City First United Methodist Church will host a drive-through living nativity from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 8-9. Enter at Division and King streets, west of Carson Street.

Lit by more than 800 luminaria, 10 scenes will depict the road Bethlehem. Nearly 200 people of all ages are involved in the telling of the story, along with live donkeys, cows and sheep. There will be a special walking path for walking spectators.

There is no cost, though canned food will be collected for those in need.

Memorial service set for Thursday

"Light up a Life" interfaith ceremony will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at Inn by the Lake, 3300 Lake Tahoe Blvd., in South Lake Tahoe.

"Light up a Life" is an annual service that honors deceased loved ones. Steve Miller and Sean Cummings will perform. Handmade ornaments will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting Barton Hospice services. The ceremony will be outdoors with an indoor reception.

To honor someone, fill out a card prior to the ceremony. If unable to attend, fill out a card and that person will be included in the service.

Pastor's open house set for Dec. 8

A retirement open house for Pastor Marvin H. Dennis will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. A ceremony is planned for 3 p.m. The event will take place at the Plaza Hotel and Conference Center, 801 S. Carson St.

Dennis' last service at Good Shepherd Wesleyan Church will by Sunday, Dec. 9.
