When the tracks at the State Prison were discovered, Dan De Quille advanced the theory they were not human, but giant sloth tracks. Now that Professor Marsh, of considerable reputation, makes the same opinion, it is said to be that of a great man. There is much credit due Mr. Wright (Dan De Quille) which has been held from him.

Word came from Washington yesterday that the Appropriation Bill failed to include the Carson Mint. Considering the fact that Congressman Roberts had told the people that he had saved the Mint, it came as a shock to those who pinned their faith in Roberts.

The Nevada Highway Department's tabulation of the 1942 traffic census from July 20 to 26 showed marked declines from the same period in 1941. The U.S. 395 traffic decreased 29 percent through Carson City.

50 years ago

Wind gusts of up to 40 mph whipped through Western Nevada, but only caused minor damage. Some of the older trees were knocked down in Washoe Valley. Motorists, especially those in small foreign cars, had a hard time holding onto the road.

The Storey County Commission worked out another interim solution to the persistent wild horse problem by directing the sheriff to conduct an official gathering of the animals.

(photo caption) Rosie the Rotweiler, aka Brandy, is shown with two of eight puppies. The animals were found abandoned in a motor home in Lyon County. The dogs will make an appearance tonight at a Capital City Humane Society fund-raiser.
