esThis column appears in the Nevada Appeal Wednesday health pages. It addresses topics related to the health of our community.Carson City Animal Services, a division of Carson City Health and Human Services, presented a draft revision of the Carson City Municipal Code, Title 7, Animals, during the Board of Supervisors meeting on Nov. 1. During the meeting, there was lengthy discussion surrounding the code and no changes have been approved at this time. A request was made to hold a public comment workshop to obtain responses from the community on proposed changes. A public meeting has been set from 5-7 p.m. Dec. 12 to address concerns of those in our community with regards to the Animals section of city code.During the Board of Supervisors meeting, much of the discussion focused on the keeping of more than three dogs. Currently, Animal Services limits ownership to three dogs, with a permit process to have four or more. However, this policy conflicts with planning code that says keeping four or more dogs is considered a kennel and must be licensed as such and only allowed on property zoned general commercial. Other issues pertaining to the code may be discussed as well.We need to hear your concerns on pet ownership and animal control in Carson City. If you would like to view the proceedings of the meeting, it can be accessed at the following Web address: www.acctv.org/programs/carson-city-governmentmeetings/board-of-supervisors/.Proposed revisions of Title 7, the animal portion of the City code, can be viewed through Animal Services’ website at http://carsoncityanimalservices.org.If you are unable to attend the workshop but would like to comment, please send comments to: cchhsinfo@carson.org or call Gail Radtke, Animal Services division manager at 775-887-2171 or email at gradtke@carson.org.
