Yesterday an old fellow, a new legislator from the eastern part of the state was standing at the capitol steps, wanting an early start in the Senate. The governor was waiting and encouraged the man to enter and gain his seat. "Say cap, you've been here a while judgin' by your experience," said the man. "What be the wages of 'er sin 'round this buildin' this year?"

The Indians are busy today holding a rabbit drive. A score of the men are busy with shotguns and bunny is getting a terrible raking. The farmers have no objection, because it pretty much rids the valley of the pests. The Indians form a large semi-circle and drive all before them.

Don Dondero, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. F.N. Dondero of Carson City has been awarded the coveted "wings of gold" and a commission as an ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve.

Longtime Sierra packer Jim Hawksworth was remembered this week as a trailblazer who loved the wilderness. Hawksworth maintained Tahoe trails for almost 40 years for the U.S. Forest Service. He passed away from cancer at the age of 69 with his wife of 44 years, Donna, at his side.
